Last night, the Société des fabricants régionaux (SFR) officially launched the S21 group, a regional group of 21 entrepreneurs who work in the manufacturing sector. These business leaders were approached for their leadership and their commitment to the economic development of Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean.
The group called S21 refers to the Société des vingt-et-un, created in 1837, by a group of entrepreneurs who came together to form a logging company. Arrival of the Société des vingt-et-un is considered a milestone event that allowed the development of the region.
« The choice of this name is not trivial, said Christian Fillion, president of the SFR and also one of the instigators of the group. We wanted to make a difference by demonstrating the seriousness of our approach, while mobilizing manufacturing leaders in the region around a simple idea: helping us to … help them! »
S21, 21TH CENTURY VERSION
The SFR will bring together these manufacturing contractors 3-4 times a year to fully understand their concerns and listen to their recommendations and ideas about the economic development of the region. This will enable SFR to be better equipped to continue its mission, which is, to foster and support the development of alliances and economic activity between manufacturing companies in Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean.
The 21 business leaders of the S21 group were invited because of their leadership in:
- regional economic benefits;
- female representation in management;
- sustainable development;
- strong growth potential.
LAUNCH ACTIVITY WITH PRESIDENT AND CEO OF BDC, ENTREPRENEURIAL BANK
SFR took advantage of the visit of Mr. Michael Denham, BDC President and CEO, in the region to organize a meeting with the founding members of S21 and the SFR held last night. The 21 entrepreneurs were able to discuss with him economic issues, including demographics and the workforce, major technological changes and uncertainty in foreign markets. « I am truly impressed by the entrepreneurial dynamism of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, said Mr. Denham. By creating S21, the Société des fabricants régionaux is giving a new impetus to the economic development of the region and to the mobilization of its key players. S21 embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that BDC can only encourage. »
